About the Author

My name is Kelsey Litterer, and I'm a junior at Iowa State University in Ames, Iowa, majoring in communication studies and minoring in performing arts. I have had numerous communication opportunities, including being a reporter for the Iowa State Daily, giving sermons as a lay person at Galilean Lutheran Church, calling alumni for the Iowa State Foundation Phone Center, and cashiering at my hometown grocery store, Bill's Family Foods, on break in Garner, Iowa. I hope my future career path leads me to empower people through my communication with them.

I have dedicated years of my life to learning about horses. When I was nine, I began taking English riding lessons once a week at a local stable. I continued to ride weekly for five years and subsequently took a break from riding to try out different sports in junior high. When I was in my junior year of high school, I realized that my love for horses was still quite real. At the end of my spring semester, I bought a Quarter horse named Rusty and started taking hunter/jumper lessons at a local stable. Through the stable, I was able to compete with Rusty in D rated and B rated shows, in which we did very well for our first year. I also acquired an Arabian horse named Knight, whom I took on trail rides with me. In the past year, I have been dedicating much of my riding time to trail riding around my hometown and also expanding my rides to different parts of Iowa. I still compete in the summer and have another show horse, named Casper, that competes in the hunter and equitation classes with me.

My passion is sharing my experiences and knowledge with people to help them along in life. I truly hope that a big portion of my life is made up of changing the lives of people for the better. At the end of the day, if I have been able to make someone's day better by helping them out or just being with them, then I have succeeded.
